STEEP | E3 REVEAL

Communicating the correct tone was crucial to Steep and Ubisoft Annecy needed it to feel authentic, but not exclusive.
This is a game where you hang out with your friends on the slopes. FWS had to communicate to the core audience that we understood the vibe and to the broad audience that it was fun to join in. That meant the right style of music, the font design, the images with lots of negative space, the wild GoPro camera angles, the intangible things that add up to hit the right note - and making it accessible to everyone.
The reveal was a surprise hit at the Ubisoft E3 conference creating a huge amount of buzz around the game.
I grew up watching Warren Miller extreme skiing and boarding films. I love the newer films like The Art of Flight. For me, this was my opportunity to make one without leaving the office.
The cinematography team got into that shooting style and imagery. They did a great job creating stunning wides and thrilling stunts to hit the emotional moments with a minimalist style.
It was also great spending time with the athletes, collaborating with them to create authentic script from own words based around their own personal experience.
